عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ﴿١﴾

'Amma Yatasaa-aloon

1About what are they asking one another?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ﴿٢﴾

'Anin-nabaa-il 'azeem

2About the great news -

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ﴿٣﴾

Allazi hum feehi mukh talifoon

3That over which they are in disagreement.

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤﴾

Kallaa sa y'alamoon

4No! They are going to know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٥﴾

Thumma kallaa sa y'alamoon

5Then, no! They are going to know.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًۭا ﴿٦﴾

Alam naj'alil arda mihaa da

6Have We not made the earth a resting place?

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًۭا ﴿٧﴾

Wal jibaala au taada

7And the mountains as stakes?

وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا ﴿٨﴾

Wa khalaq naakum azwaaja

8And We created you in pairs

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا ﴿٩﴾

Waja'alnan naumakum subata

9And made your sleep [a means for] rest

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًۭا ﴿١٠﴾

Waja'alnal laila libasa

10And made the night as clothing

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًۭا ﴿١١﴾

Waja'alnan nahara ma 'aasha

11And made the day for livelihood

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًۭا شِدَادًۭا ﴿١٢﴾

Wa banaina fauqakum sab 'an shi daada

12And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًۭا وَهَّاجًۭا ﴿١٣﴾

Waja'alna siraajaw wah haaja

13And made [therein] a burning lamp

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءًۭ ثَجَّاجًۭا ﴿١٤﴾

Wa anzalna minal m'usiraati maa-an saj-jaaja

14And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّۭا وَنَبَاتًۭا ﴿١٥﴾

Linukh rija bihee habbaw wana baata

15That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا ﴿١٦﴾

Wa jan naatin alfafa

16And gardens of entwined growth.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًۭا ﴿١٧﴾

Inna yaumal-fasli kana miqaata

17Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًۭا ﴿١٨﴾

Yauma yun fakhu fis-soori fataa toona afwaaja

18The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًۭا ﴿١٩﴾

Wa futiha tis samaa-u fakaanat abwaaba

19And the heaven is opened and will become gateways

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا ﴿٢٠﴾

Wa suyyi raatil jibaalu fa kaanat saraaba

20And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًۭا ﴿٢١﴾

Inna jahan nama kaanat mirsaada

21Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًۭا ﴿٢٢﴾

Lit taa gheena ma aaba

22For the transgressors, a place of return,

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًۭا ﴿٢٣﴾

Laa bitheena feehaa ahqaaba

23In which they will remain for ages [unending].

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًۭا وَلَا شَرَابًا ﴿٢٤﴾

Laa ya zooqoona feeha bar daw walaa sharaaba

24They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink

إِلَّا حَمِيمًۭا وَغَسَّاقًۭا ﴿٢٥﴾

Illa hamee maw-wa ghas saaqa

25Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -

جَزَآءًۭ وِفَاقًا ﴿٢٦﴾

Jazaa-aw wi faaqa

26An appropriate recompense.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًۭا ﴿٢٧﴾

Innahum kaanu laa yarjoona hisaaba

27Indeed, they were not expecting an account

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًۭا ﴿٢٨﴾

Wa kazzabu bi aayaa tina kizzaba

28And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًۭا ﴿٢٩﴾

Wa kulla shai-in ahsai naahu kitaa ba

29But all things We have enumerated in writing.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ﴿٣٠﴾

Fa zooqoo falan-nazee dakum ill-laa azaaba

30"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ﴿٣١﴾

Inna lil mutta qeena mafaaza

31Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًۭا ﴿٣٢﴾

Hadaa-iqa wa a'anaa ba

32Gardens and grapevines

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًۭا ﴿٣٣﴾

Wa kaawa 'iba at raaba

33And full-breasted [companions] of equal age

وَكَأْسًۭا دِهَاقًۭا ﴿٣٤﴾

Wa ka'san di haaqa

34And a full cup.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًۭا ﴿٣٥﴾

Laa yasma'oona fiha lagh waw walaa kizzaba

35No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -

جَزَآءًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًۭا ﴿٣٦﴾

Jazaa-am mir-rabbika ataa-an hisaaba

36[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًۭا ﴿٣٧﴾

Rabbis samaa waati wal ardi wa maa baina humar rahmaani laa yam likoona minhu khi taaba

37[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّۭا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًۭا ﴿٣٨﴾

Yauma yaqoo mur roohu wal malaa-ikatu saf-fal laa yata kalla moona illa man azina lahur rahmaanu wa qaala sawaaba

38The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا ﴿٣٩﴾

Zaalikal yaumul haqqu faman shaa-at ta khaaza ill-laa rabbihi ma-aaba

39That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًۭا قَرِيبًۭا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا ﴿٤٠﴾

In naa anzar naakum azaaban qareebaiy-yauma yan zurul marr-u maa qaddamat yadaahu wa ya qoolul-kaafiru yaa lai tanee kuntu turaaba

40Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"

وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرْقًۭا ﴿١﴾

Wan naazi 'aati gharqa

1By those [angels] who extract with violence

وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشْطًۭا ﴿٢﴾

Wan naa shi taati nashta

2And [by] those who remove with ease

وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبْحًۭا ﴿٣﴾

Wass saabi-haati sabha

3And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming

فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبْقًۭا ﴿٤﴾

Fass saabi qaati sabqa

4And those who race each other in a race

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًۭا ﴿٥﴾

Fal mu dab-bi raati amra

5And those who arrange [each] matter,

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ ﴿٦﴾

Yawma tarjufur raajifa

6On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ ﴿٧﴾

Tatba'u har raadifa

7There will follow it the subsequent [one].

قُلُوبٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَاجِفَةٌ ﴿٨﴾

Quloobuny-yau maaiziw-waaji-fa

8Hearts, that Day, will tremble,

أَبْصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٌۭ ﴿٩﴾

Absaa ruhaa khashi'ah

9Their eyes humbled.

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ ﴿١٠﴾

Ya qoo loona a-inna lamar doo doona fil haafirah

10They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًۭا نَّخِرَةًۭ ﴿١١﴾

Aizaa kunna 'izaa man-nakhirah

11Even if we should be decayed bones?

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًۭا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌۭ ﴿١٢﴾

Qaalu tilka izan karratun khaasirah.

12They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ ﴿١٣﴾

Fa inna ma hiya zajratuw-waahida

13Indeed, it will be but one shout,

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ ﴿١٤﴾

Faizaa hum biss saahirah

14And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ ﴿١٥﴾

Hal ataaka hadeethu Musaa

15Has there reached you the story of Moses? -

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى ﴿١٦﴾

Iz nadaahu rabbuhu bil waadil-muqad dasi tuwa

16When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ ﴿١٧﴾

Izhab ilaa fir'auna innahu taghaa.

17"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ ﴿١٨﴾

Faqul hal laka ilaa-an tazakka.

18And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ ﴿١٩﴾

Wa ahdi yaka ila rabbika fatakh sha

19And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْءَايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿٢٠﴾

Fa araahul-aayatal kubra.

20And he showed him the greatest sign,

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ ﴿٢١﴾

Fa kazzaba wa asaa.

21But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ ﴿٢٢﴾

Thumma adbara yas'aa.

22Then he turned his back, striving.

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ ﴿٢٣﴾

Fa hashara fanada.

23And he gathered [his people] and called out

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ﴿٢٤﴾

Faqala ana rabbu kumul-a'laa.

24And said, "I am your most exalted lord."

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ ﴿٢٥﴾

Fa-akha zahul laahu nakalal aakhirati wal-oola.

25So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ ﴿٢٦﴾

Inna fee zaalika la'ibratal limaiy-yaksha

26Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah].

ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا ﴿٢٧﴾

A-antum a shaddu khalqan amis samaa-u banaaha.

27Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا ﴿٢٨﴾

Raf'a sam kaha fasaw waaha

28He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا ﴿٢٩﴾

Wa aghtasha lailaha wa akhraja duhaaha.

29And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.

وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ ﴿٣٠﴾

Wal arda b'ada zaalika dahaaha.

30And after that He spread the earth.

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا ﴿٣١﴾

Akhraja minha maa-aha wa mar 'aaha.

31He extracted from it its water and its pasture,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا ﴿٣٢﴾

Wal jibala arsaaha.

32And the mountains He set firmly

مَتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ ﴿٣٣﴾

Mataa'al lakum wali an 'aamikum.

33As provision for you and your grazing livestock.

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿٣٤﴾

Fa-izaa jaaa'atit taaam matul kubraa.

34But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ ﴿٣٥﴾

Yauma Yata zakkarul insaanu ma sa'aa.

35The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ ﴿٣٦﴾

Wa burrizatil-jaheemu limany-yaraa.

36And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ ﴿٣٧﴾

Fa ammaa man taghaa.

37So as for he who transgressed

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ﴿٣٨﴾

Wa aasaral hayaatad dunyaa

38And preferred the life of the world,

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ ﴿٣٩﴾

Fa innal jaheema hiyal maawaa.

39Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ ﴿٤٠﴾

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama Rabbihee wa nahan nafsa 'anil hawaa

40But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ ﴿٤١﴾

Fa innal jannata hiyal maawaa

41Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا ﴿٤٢﴾

Yas'aloonaka 'anis saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

42They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ ﴿٤٣﴾

Feema anta min zikraahaa

43In what [position] are you that you should mention it?

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ ﴿٤٤﴾

Ilaa Rabbika muntahaa haa

44To your Lord is its finality.

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا ﴿٤٥﴾

Innamaaa anta munziru maiy yakshaahaa

45You are only a warner for those who fear it.

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا ﴿٤٦﴾

Ka annahum Yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbasooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaahaa

46It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١﴾

'Abasa wa tawallaa.

1The Prophet frowned and turned away

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ ﴿٢﴾

An jaa-ahul 'a-maa

2Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ ﴿٣﴾

Wa maa yudreeka la'allahu yaz zakkaa.

3But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ ﴿٤﴾

Au yaz zak karu fatanfa 'ahuz zikraa.

4Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?

أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

Amma manis taghnaa

5As for he who thinks himself without need,

فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Fa-anta lahu tasaddaa

6To him you give attention.

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Wa ma 'alaika allaa yaz zakka.

7And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.

وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Wa amma man jaa-aka yas'a

8But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Wahuwa yakhshaa,

9While he fears [Allah],

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

Fa-anta 'anhu talah haa.

10From him you are distracted.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ﴿١١﴾

Kalla innaha tazkirah

11No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿١٢﴾

Faman shaa a zakarah

12So whoever wills may remember it.

فِى صُحُفٍۢ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ ﴿١٣﴾

Fi suhufim mukar rama,

13[It is recorded] in honored sheets,

مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ ﴿١٤﴾

Marfoo'atim mutah hara,

14Exalted and purified,

بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍۢ ﴿١٥﴾

Bi'aidee safara

15[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,

كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍۢ ﴿١٦﴾

Kiraamim bararah.

16Noble and dutiful.

قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ ﴿١٧﴾

Qutilal-insanu maa akfarah.

17Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.

مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ ﴿١٨﴾

Min aiyyi shai-in Khalaq

18From what substance did He create him?

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ ﴿١٩﴾

Min nutfah; khalaqahu faqad-darah.

19From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;

ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ ﴿٢٠﴾

Thummas sabeela yas-sarah

20Then He eased the way for him;

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ ﴿٢١﴾

Thumma amatahu fa-aqbarah

21Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ ﴿٢٢﴾

Thumma iza shaa-a ansharah

22Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ ﴿٢٣﴾

Kalla lamma yaqdi maa amarah.

23No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ ﴿٢٤﴾

Falyanzuril insanu ilaa ta-amih

24Then let mankind look at his food -

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّۭا ﴿٢٥﴾

Anna sabab nalmaa-a sabba.

25How We poured down water in torrents,

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّۭا ﴿٢٦﴾

Thumma sha qaqnal-arda shaqqa.

26Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّۭا ﴿٢٧﴾

Fa ambatna feeha habba

27And caused to grow within it grain

وَعِنَبًۭا وَقَضْبًۭا ﴿٢٨﴾

Wa 'inabaw-wa qadba

28And grapes and herbage

وَزَيْتُونًۭا وَنَخْلًۭا ﴿٢٩﴾

Wa zaitoonaw wanakh la'

29And olive and palm trees

وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًۭا ﴿٣٠﴾

Wa hadaa-iqa ghulba

30And gardens of dense shrubbery

وَفَٰكِهَةًۭ وَأَبًّۭا ﴿٣١﴾

Wa faki hataw-wa abba.

31And fruit and grass -

مَّتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ ﴿٣٢﴾

Mata'al-lakum wa li-an'amikum.

32[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ ﴿٣٣﴾

Faiza jaa-atis saakhah.

33But when there comes the Deafening Blast

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ﴿٣٤﴾

Yauma yafir-rul mar-u min akheeh

34On the Day a man will flee from his brother

وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ ﴿٣٥﴾

Wa ummihee wa abeeh

35And his mother and his father

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ ﴿٣٦﴾

Wa sahi batihee wa baneeh.

36And his wife and his children,

لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ شَأْنٌۭ يُغْنِيهِ ﴿٣٧﴾

Likul limri-im-minuhm yaumaa-izin shaa nuy-yughneeh

37For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ مُّسْفِرَةٌۭ ﴿٣٨﴾

Wujoo huny-yauma-izim-musfira;

38[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -

ضَاحِكَةٌۭ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ ﴿٣٩﴾

Dahi katum mustab shirah

39Laughing, rejoicing at good news.

وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌۭ ﴿٤٠﴾

Wa wujoohuy yauma-izin 'alaiha ghabar a

40And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ﴿٤١﴾

Tarhaquha qatarah.

41Blackness will cover them.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ ﴿٤٢﴾

Ulaa-ika humul-kafa ratul-fajarah.

42Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.

إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ ﴿١﴾

Izash shamsu kuwwirat

1When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ ﴿٢﴾

Wa izan nujoomun kadarat

2And when the stars fall, dispersing,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ ﴿٣﴾

Wa izal jibaalu suyyirat

3And when the mountains are removed

وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ ﴿٤﴾

Wa izal 'ishaaru 'uttilat

4And when full-term she-camels are neglected

وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ ﴿٥﴾

Wa izal wuhooshu hushirat

5And when the wild beasts are gathered

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ ﴿٦﴾

Wa izal bihaaru sujjirat

6And when the seas are filled with flame

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ ﴿٧﴾

Wa izan nufoosu zuwwijat

7And when the souls are paired

وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ ﴿٨﴾

Wa izal maw'oodatu su'ilat

8And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked

بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍۢ قُتِلَتْ ﴿٩﴾

Bi ayyi zambin qutilat

9For what sin she was killed

وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa izas suhufu nushirat

10And when the pages are made public

وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ ﴿١١﴾

Wa izas samaaa'u kushitat

11And when the sky is stripped away

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ ﴿١٢﴾

Wa izal jaheemu su'-'irat

12And when Hellfire is set ablaze

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ ﴿١٣﴾

Wa izal jannatu uzlifat

13And when Paradise is brought near,

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌۭ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ ﴿١٤﴾

'Alimat nafsum maaa ahdarat

14A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ ﴿١٥﴾

Falaaa uqsimu bil khunnas

15So I swear by the retreating stars -

ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ ﴿١٦﴾

Al jawaaril kunnas

16Those that run [their courses] and disappear -

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ ﴿١٧﴾

Wallaili izaa 'as'as

17And by the night as it closes in

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ﴿١٨﴾

Wassubhi izaa tanaffas

18And by the dawn when it breathes

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍۢ كَرِيمٍۢ ﴿١٩﴾

Innahoo laqawlu rasoolin kareem

19[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger

ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍۢ ﴿٢٠﴾

Zee quwwatin 'inda zil 'arshi makeen

20[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],

مُّطَاعٍۢ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍۢ ﴿٢١﴾

Mutaa'in samma ameen

21Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.

وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍۢ ﴿٢٢﴾

Wa maa saahibukum bimajnoon

22And your companion is not [at all] mad.

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ ﴿٢٣﴾

Wa laqad ra aahu bilufuqil mubeen

23And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍۢ ﴿٢٤﴾

Wa maa huwa 'alal ghaibi bidaneen

24And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ رَّجِيمٍۢ ﴿٢٥﴾

Wa maa huwa biqawli shaitaanir rajeem

25And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].

فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ ﴿٢٦﴾

Fa ayna tazhaboon

26So where are you going?

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌۭ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿٢٧﴾

In huwa illaa zikrul lil'aalameen

27It is not except a reminder to the worlds

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ ﴿٢٨﴾

Liman shaaa'a minkum ai yastaqeem

28For whoever wills among you to take a right course.

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿٢٩﴾

Wa maa tashaaa'oona illaaa ai yashaaa 'al laahu Rabbul 'Aalameen

29And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتْ ﴿١﴾

Izas samaaa'un fatarat

1When the sky breaks apart

وَإِذَا ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتْ ﴿٢﴾

Wa izal kawaakibun tasarat

2And when the stars fall, scattering,

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ ﴿٣﴾

Wa izal bihaaru fujjirat

3And when the seas are erupted

وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ ﴿٤﴾

Wa izal qubooru bu'sirat

4And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌۭ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ ﴿٥﴾

'Alimat nafsum maa qaddamat wa akhkharat

5A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ ﴿٦﴾

Yaaa ayyuhal insaaanu maa gharraka bi Rabbikal kareem

6O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ ﴿٧﴾

Allazee khalaqaka fasaw waaka fa'adalak

7Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?

فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍۢ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ ﴿٨﴾

Feee ayye sooratim maa shaaa'a rakkabak

8In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.

كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿٩﴾

Kalla bal tukazziboona bid deen

9No! But you deny the Recompense.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَٰفِظِينَ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa inna 'alaikum lahaa fizeen

10And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,

كِرَامًۭا كَٰتِبِينَ ﴿١١﴾

Kiraaman kaatibeen

11Noble and recording;

يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ ﴿١٢﴾

Ya'lamoona ma taf'aloon

12They know whatever you do.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍۢ ﴿١٣﴾

Innal abraara lafee na'eem

13Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,

وَإِنَّ ٱلْفُجَّارَ لَفِى جَحِيمٍۢ ﴿١٤﴾

Wa innal fujjaara lafee jaheem

14And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.

يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿١٥﴾

Yaslawnahaa Yawmad Deen

15They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,

وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ ﴿١٦﴾

Wa maa hum 'anhaa bighaaa 'ibeen

16And never therefrom will they be absent.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿١٧﴾

Wa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

17And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿١٨﴾

Summa maaa adraaka maa Yawmud Deen

18Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌۭ لِّنَفْسٍۢ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَٱلْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلَّهِ ﴿١٩﴾

Yawma laa tamliku nafsul linafsin shai'anw walamru yawma'izil lillaah

19It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.

وَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ ﴿١﴾

Wailul lil mutaffifeen

1Woe to those who give less [than due],

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ﴿٢﴾

Allazeena izak taaloo 'alan naasi yastawfoon

2Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ﴿٣﴾

Wa izaa kaaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroon

3But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ﴿٤﴾

Alaa yazunnu ulaaa'ika annahum mab'oosoon

4Do they not think that they will be resurrected

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ ﴿٥﴾

Li Yawmin 'Azeem

5For a tremendous Day -

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿٦﴾

Yawma yaqoomun naasu li Rabbil 'aalameen

6The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍۢ ﴿٧﴾

Kallaaa inna kitaabal fujjaari lafee Sijjeen

7No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌۭ ﴿٨﴾

Wa maa adraaka maa Sijjeen

8And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

كِتَٰبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ ﴿٩﴾

Kitaabum marqoom

9It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.

وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ﴿١٠﴾

Wailuny yawma'izil lil mukazzibeen

10Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿١١﴾

Allazeena yukazziboona bi yawmid deen

11Who deny the Day of Recompense.

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ﴿١٢﴾

Wa maa yukazzibu biheee illaa kullu mu'tadin aseem

12And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ﴿١٣﴾

Izaa tutlaa'alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaateerul awwaleen

13When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿١٤﴾

Kallaa bal raana 'alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon

14No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ ﴿١٥﴾

Kallaaa innahum 'ar Rabbihim yawma'izil lamah jooboon

15No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ﴿١٦﴾

Summa innahum lasaa lul jaheem

16Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ﴿١٧﴾

Summa yuqaalu haazal lazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon

17Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ ﴿١٨﴾

Kallaaa inna kitaabal abraari lafee'Illiyyeen

18No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ﴿١٩﴾

Wa maaa adraaka maa 'Illiyyoon

19And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?

كِتَٰبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ ﴿٢٠﴾

Kitaabum marqoom

20It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ﴿٢١﴾

Yashhadu hul muqarra boon

21Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ ﴿٢٢﴾

Innal abraara lafee Na'eem

22Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

23On adorned couches, observing.

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿٢٤﴾

Ta'rifu fee wujoohihim nadratan na'eem

24You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍۢ مَّخْتُومٍ ﴿٢٥﴾

Yusqawna mir raheeqim makhtoom

25They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.

خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌۭ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ ﴿٢٦﴾

Khitaamuhoo misk; wa fee zaalika falyatanaafasil Mutanaafisoon

26The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ ﴿٢٧﴾

Wa mizaajuhoo min Tasneem

27And its mixture is of Tasneem,

عَيْنًۭا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ﴿٢٨﴾

'Ainaiy yashrabu bihal muqarraboon

28A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ ﴿٢٩﴾

Innal lazeena ajramoo kaanoo minal lazeena aamanoo yadhakoon

29Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ﴿٣٠﴾

Wa izaa marroo bihim yataghaamazoon

30And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ ﴿٣١﴾

Wa izan qalabooo ilaaa ahlihimun qalaboo fakiheen

31And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

Wa izaa ra awhum qaalooo inna haaa'ulaaa'i ladaaal loon

32And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ ﴿٣٣﴾

Wa maaa ursiloo 'alaihim haafizeen

33But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

Fal yawmal lazeena aamanoo minal kuffaari yadhakoon

34So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

35On adorned couches, observing.

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ ﴿٣٦﴾

Hal suwwibal kuffaaru maa kaanoo yaf'aloon

36Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ ﴿١﴾

Izas samaaa'un shaqqat

1When the sky has split [open]

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿٢﴾

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

2And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ﴿٣﴾

Wa izal ardu muddat

3And when the earth has been extended

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ﴿٤﴾

Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat

4And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿٥﴾

Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat

5And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًۭا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ﴿٦﴾

Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh

6O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ﴿٧﴾

Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih

7Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًۭا يَسِيرًۭا ﴿٨﴾

Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa

8He will be judged with an easy account

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًۭا ﴿٩﴾

Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa

9And return to his people in happiness.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih

10But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًۭا ﴿١١﴾

Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa

11He will cry out for destruction

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ﴿١٢﴾

Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa

12And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا ﴿١٣﴾

Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa

13Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ﴿١٤﴾

Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor

14Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah].

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًۭا ﴿١٥﴾

Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa

15But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ﴿١٦﴾

Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq

16So I swear by the twilight glow

وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ﴿١٧﴾

Wallaili wa maa wasaq

17And [by] the night and what it envelops

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ﴿١٨﴾

Walqamari izat tasaq

18And [by] the moon when it becomes full

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍۢ ﴿١٩﴾

Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq

19[That] you will surely experience state after state.

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٢٠﴾

Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon

20So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ ﴿٢١﴾

Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon

21And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ ﴿٢٢﴾

Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon

22But those who have disbelieved deny,

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon

23And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ﴿٢٤﴾

Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem

24So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ ﴿٢٥﴾

Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon

25Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ ﴿١﴾

Wassamaaa'i zaatil burooj

1By the sky containing great stars

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ ﴿٢﴾

Wal yawmil maw'ood

2And [by] the promised Day

وَشَاهِدٍۢ وَمَشْهُودٍۢ ﴿٣﴾

Wa shaahidinw wa mashhood

3And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

قُتِلَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ ﴿٤﴾

Qutila as haabul ukhdood

4Cursed were the companions of the trench

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ ﴿٥﴾

Annaari zaatil waqood

5[Containing] the fire full of fuel,

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌۭ ﴿٦﴾

Iz hum 'alaihaa qu'ood

6When they were sitting near it

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌۭ ﴿٧﴾

Wa hum 'alaa maa yaf'aloona bilmu 'mineena shuhood

7And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ ﴿٨﴾

Wa maa naqamoo minhum illaaa aiyu'minoo billaahil 'azeezil Hameed

8And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ ﴿٩﴾

Allazee lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ard; wallaahu 'alaa kulli shai 'in Shaheed

9To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ ﴿١٠﴾

Innal lazeena fatanul mu'mineena wal mu'minaati summa lam yatooboo falahum 'azaabu Jahannama wa lahum 'azaabul hareeq

10Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ﴿١١﴾

Innal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum Jannaatun tajree min tahtihal anhaar; zaalikal fawzul kabeer

11Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿١٢﴾

Inna batsha Rabbika lashadeed

12Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ ﴿١٣﴾

Innahoo Huwa yubdi'u wa yu'eed

13Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ ﴿١٤﴾

Wa Huwal Ghafoorul Wadood

14And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ ﴿١٥﴾

Zul 'Arshil Majeed

15Honorable Owner of the Throne,

فَعَّالٌۭ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ﴿١٦﴾

Fa' 'aalul limaa yureed

16Effecter of what He intends.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ ﴿١٧﴾

Hal ataaka hadeesul junood

17Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ ﴿١٨﴾

Fir'awna wa Samood

18[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍۢ ﴿١٩﴾

Balil lazeena kafaroo fee takzeeb

19But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ ﴿٢٠﴾

Wallaahu minw waraaa'ihim muheet

20While Allah encompasses them from behind.

بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌۭ مَّجِيدٌۭ ﴿٢١﴾

Bal huwa Quraanum Majeed

21But this is an honored Qur'an

فِى لَوْحٍۢ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ ﴿٢٢﴾

Fee Lawhim Mahfooz

22[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ ﴿١﴾

Wassamaaa'i wattaariq

1By the sky and the night comer -

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ ﴿٢﴾

Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

2And what can make you know what is the night comer?

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ﴿٣﴾

Annajmus saaqib

3It is the piercing star -

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ ﴿٤﴾

In kullu nafsil lammaa 'alaihaa haafiz

4There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ﴿٥﴾

Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq

5So let man observe from what he was created.

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ ﴿٦﴾

Khuliqa mim maaa'in daafiq

6He was created from a fluid, ejected,

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ ﴿٧﴾

Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa'ib

7Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ ﴿٨﴾

Innahoo 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

8Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ ﴿٩﴾

Yawma tublas saraaa'ir

9The Day when secrets will be put on trial,

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ ﴿١٠﴾

Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir

10Then man will have no power or any helper.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ ﴿١١﴾

Wassamaaa'i zaatir raj'

11By the sky which returns [rain]

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ ﴿١٢﴾

Wal ardi zaatis sad'

12And [by] the earth which cracks open,

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ ﴿١٣﴾

Innahoo laqawlun fasl

13Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ ﴿١٤﴾

Wa maa huwa bil hazl

14And it is not amusement.

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا ﴿١٥﴾

Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa

15Indeed, they are planning a plan,

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا ﴿١٦﴾

Wa akeedu kaidaa

16But I am planning a plan.

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا ﴿١٧﴾

Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa

17So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.

سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى ﴿١﴾

Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'laa

1Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ﴿٢﴾

Allazee khalaqa fasawwaa

2Who created and proportioned

وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ﴿٣﴾

Wallazee qaddara fahadaa

3And who destined and [then] guided

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ ﴿٤﴾

Wallazeee akhrajal mar'aa

4And who brings out the pasture

فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

Faja'alahoo ghusaaa'an ahwaa

5And [then] makes it black stubble.

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ ﴿٦﴾

Sanuqri'uka falaa tansaaa

6We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,

إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Illaa maa shaaa'al laah; innahoo ya'lamul jahra wa maa yakhfaa

7Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Wa nu-yassiruka lilyusraa

8And We will ease you toward ease.

فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Fazakkir in nafa'atizzikraa

9So remind, if the reminder should benefit;

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

Sa yazzakkaru maiyakhshaa

10He who fears [Allah] will be reminded.

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى ﴿١١﴾

Wa yatajannabuhal ashqaa

11But the wretched one will avoid it -

ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿١٢﴾

Allazee yaslan Naaral kubraa

12[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ ﴿١٣﴾

Summa laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa

13Neither dying therein nor living.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

Qad aflaha man tazakkaa

14He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ ﴿١٥﴾

Wa zakaras ma Rabbihee fasallaa

15And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ﴿١٦﴾

Bal tu'siroonal hayaatad dunyaa

16But you prefer the worldly life,

وَٱلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ﴿١٧﴾

Wal Aakhiratu khairunw wa abqaa

17While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿١٨﴾

Inna haazaa lafis suhu fil oolaa

18Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,

صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ ﴿١٩﴾

Suhufi Ibraaheema wa Moosaa

19The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَٰشِيَةِ ﴿١﴾

Hal ataaka hadeesul ghaashiyah

1Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ ﴿٢﴾

Wujoohuny yawma 'izin khaashi'ah

2[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,

عَامِلَةٌۭ نَّاصِبَةٌۭ ﴿٣﴾

'Aamilatun naasibah

3Working [hard] and exhausted.

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةًۭ ﴿٤﴾

Taslaa naaran haamiyah

4They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ ﴿٥﴾

Tusqaa min 'aynin aaniyah

5They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍۢ ﴿٦﴾

Laisa lahum ta'aamun illaa min daree'

6For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍۢ ﴿٧﴾

Laa yusminu wa laa yughnee min joo'

7Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.

وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاعِمَةٌۭ ﴿٨﴾

Wujoohuny yawma 'izin naa'imah

8[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌۭ ﴿٩﴾

Lisa'yihaa raadiyah

9With their effort [they are] satisfied

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍۢ ﴿١٠﴾

Fee jannatin 'aaliyah

10In an elevated garden,

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةًۭ ﴿١١﴾

Laa tasma'u feehaa laaghiyah

11Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.

فِيهَا عَيْنٌۭ جَارِيَةٌۭ ﴿١٢﴾

Feehaa 'aynun jaariyah

12Within it is a flowing spring.

فِيهَا سُرُرٌۭ مَّرْفُوعَةٌۭ ﴿١٣﴾

Feehaa sururum marfoo'ah

13Within it are couches raised high

وَأَكْوَابٌۭ مَّوْضُوعَةٌۭ ﴿١٤﴾

Wa akwaabum mawdoo 'ah

14And cups put in place

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌۭ ﴿١٥﴾

Wa namaariqu masfoofah

15And cushions lined up

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ ﴿١٦﴾

Wa zaraabiyyu mabsoosah

16And carpets spread around.

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ ﴿١٧﴾

Afalaa yanzuroona ilalibili kaifa khuliqat

17Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ ﴿١٨﴾

Wa ilas samaaa'i kaifa rufi'at

18And at the sky - how it is raised?

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ ﴿١٩﴾

Wa ilal jibaali kaifa nusibat

19And at the mountains - how they are erected?

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ ﴿٢٠﴾

Wa ilal ardi kaifa sutihat

20And at the earth - how it is spread out?

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌۭ ﴿٢١﴾

Fazakkir innama anta Muzakkir

21So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ ﴿٢٢﴾

Lasta 'alaihim bimusaitir

22You are not over them a controller.

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ ﴿٢٣﴾

Illaa man tawallaa wa kafar

23However, he who turns away and disbelieves -

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ ﴿٢٤﴾

Fa yu'azzibuhul laahul 'azaabal akbar

24Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ ﴿٢٥﴾

Innaa ilainaaa iyaabahum

25Indeed, to Us is their return.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم ﴿٢٦﴾

Summa inna 'alainaa hisaabahum

26Then indeed, upon Us is their account.

وَٱلْفَجْرِ ﴿١﴾

Wal-Fajr

1By the dawn

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍۢ ﴿٢﴾

Wa layaalin 'ashr

2And [by] ten nights

وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ ﴿٣﴾

Wash shaf'i wal watr

3And [by] the even [number] and the odd

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ ﴿٤﴾

Wallaili izaa yasr

4And [by] the night when it passes,

هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌۭ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ ﴿٥﴾

Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr

5Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ﴿٦﴾

Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi'aad

6Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ ﴿٧﴾

Iramaa zaatil 'imaad

7[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ﴿٨﴾

Allatee lam yukhlaq misluhaa fil bilaad

8The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ ﴿٩﴾

Wa samoodal lazeena jaabus sakhra bil waad

9And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa fir'awna zil awtaad

10And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ﴿١١﴾

Allazeena taghaw fil bilaad

11[All of] whom oppressed within the lands

فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ ﴿١٢﴾

Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad

12And increased therein the corruption.

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ﴿١٣﴾

Fasabba 'alaihim Rabbuka sawta 'azaab

13So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ ﴿١٤﴾

Inna Rabbaka labil mirsaad

14Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ ﴿١٥﴾

Fa ammal insaanu izaa mab talaahu Rabbuhoo fa akramahoo wa na' 'amahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee akraman

15And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ ﴿١٦﴾

Wa ammaaa izaa mabtalaahu faqadara 'alaihi rizqahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee ahaanan

16But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿١٧﴾

Kalla bal laa tukrimooo nal yateem

17No! But you do not honor the orphan

وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿١٨﴾

Wa laa tahaaaddoona 'alaata'aamil miskeen

18And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًۭا لَّمًّۭا ﴿١٩﴾

Wa taakuloonat turaasa aklal lammaa

19And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّۭا جَمًّۭا ﴿٢٠﴾

Wa tuhibboonal maala hubban jammaa

20And you love wealth with immense love.

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّۭا دَكًّۭا ﴿٢١﴾

Kallaaa izaaa dukkatil ardu dakkan dakka

21No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّۭا صَفًّۭا ﴿٢٢﴾

Wa jaaa'a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa

22And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿٢٣﴾

Wa jeee'a yawma'izim bi jahannnam; Yawma 'iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa

23And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى ﴿٢٤﴾

Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee

24He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿٢٥﴾

Fa Yawma izil laa yu'azzibu 'azaabahooo ahad

25So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿٢٦﴾

Wa laa yoosiqu wasaaqa hooo ahad

26And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ﴿٢٧﴾

Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul mutma 'innah

27[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةًۭ مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ ﴿٢٨﴾

Irji'eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah

28Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى ﴿٢٩﴾

Fadkhulee fee 'ibaadee

29And enter among My [righteous] servants

وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى ﴿٣٠﴾

Wadkhulee jannatee

30And enter My Paradise."

لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿١﴾

Laaa uqsimu bihaazal balad

1I swear by this city, Makkah -

وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿٢﴾

Wa anta hillum bihaazal balad

2And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

وَوَالِدٍۢ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴿٣﴾

Wa waalidinw wa maa walad

3And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ ﴿٤﴾

Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee kabad

4We have certainly created man into hardship.

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿٥﴾

Ayahsabu al-lai yaqdira 'alaihi ahad

5Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًۭا لُّبَدًا ﴿٦﴾

Yaqoolu ahlaktu maalal lubadaa

6He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ﴿٧﴾

Ayahsabu al lam yarahooo ahad

7Does he think that no one has seen him?

أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ ﴿٨﴾

Alam naj'al lahoo 'aynayn

8Have We not made for him two eyes?

وَلِسَانًۭا وَشَفَتَيْنِ ﴿٩﴾

Wa lisaananw wa shafatayn

9And a tongue and two lips?

وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa hadaynaahun najdayn

10And have shown him the two ways?

فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ ﴿١١﴾

Falaq tahamal-'aqabah

11But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ ﴿١٢﴾

Wa maaa adraaka mal'aqabah

12And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﴿١٣﴾

Fakku raqabah

13It is the freeing of a slave

أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌۭ فِى يَوْمٍۢ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍۢ ﴿١٤﴾

Aw it'aamun fee yawmin zee masghabah

14Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

يَتِيمًۭا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ﴿١٥﴾

Yateeman zaa maqrabah

15An orphan of near relationship

أَوْ مِسْكِينًۭا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍۢ ﴿١٦﴾

Aw miskeenan zaa matrabah

16Or a needy person in misery

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ ﴿١٧﴾

Summa kaana minal lazeena aamanoo wa tawaasaw bissabri wa tawaasaw bilmarhamah

17And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ ﴿١٨﴾

Ulaaa'ika As-haabul maimanah

18Those are the companions of the right.

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ﴿١٩﴾

Wallazeena kafaroo bi aayaatinaa hum as-haabul Mash'amah

19But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌۭ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ ﴿٢٠﴾

Alaihim naarum mu'sadah

20Over them will be fire closed in.

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ﴿١﴾

Wash shamsi wa duhaa haa

1By the sun and its brightness

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ﴿٢﴾

Wal qamari izaa talaa haa

2And [by] the moon when it follows it

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ﴿٣﴾

Wannahaari izaa jallaa haa

3And [by] the day when it displays it

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا ﴿٤﴾

Wallaili izaa yaghshaa haa

4And [by] the night when it covers it

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ﴿٥﴾

Wassamaaa'i wa maa banaahaa

5And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ﴿٦﴾

Wal ardi wa maa tahaahaa

6And [by] the earth and He who spread it

وَنَفْسٍۢ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا ﴿٧﴾

Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa

7And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا ﴿٨﴾

Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa

8And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا ﴿٩﴾

Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa

9He has succeeded who purifies it,

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا ﴿١٠﴾

Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa

10And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ ﴿١١﴾

Kazzabat Samoodu bi taghwaahaaa

11Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا ﴿١٢﴾

Izim ba'asa ashqaahaa

12When the most wretched of them was sent forth.

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَٰهَا ﴿١٣﴾

Faqaala lahum Rasoolul laahi naaqatal laahi wa suqiyaahaa

13And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink."

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا ﴿١٤﴾

Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alaihim Rabbuhum bizambihim fasaw waahaa

14But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا ﴿١٥﴾

Wa laa yakhaafu'uqbaahaa

15And He does not fear the consequence thereof.

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ ﴿١﴾

Wallaili izaa yaghshaa

1By the night when it covers

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ ﴿٢﴾

Wannahaari izaa tajalla

2And [by] the day when it appears

وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ ﴿٣﴾

Wa maa khalaqaz zakara wal unthaa

3And [by] He who created the male and female,

إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ ﴿٤﴾

Inna sa'yakum lashattaa

4Indeed, your efforts are diverse.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

Fa ammaa man a'taa wattaqaa

5As for he who gives and fears Allah

وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Wa saddaqa bil husnaa

6And believes in the best [reward],

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Fasanu yassiruhoo lilyusraa

7We will ease him toward ease.

وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Wa ammaa mam bakhila wastaghnaa

8But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need

وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Wa kazzaba bil husnaa

9And denies the best [reward],

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

Fasanu yassiruhoo lil'usraa

10We will ease him toward difficulty.

وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ ﴿١١﴾

Wa maa yughnee 'anhu maaluhooo izaa taraddaa

11And what will his wealth avail him when he falls?

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ ﴿١٢﴾

Inna 'alainaa lal hudaa

12Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance.

وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْءَاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿١٣﴾

Wa inna lanaa lal Aakhirata wal oolaa

13And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًۭا تَلَظَّىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

Fa anzartukum naaran talazzaa

14So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing.

لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى ﴿١٥﴾

Laa yaslaahaaa illal ashqaa

15None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one.

ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ﴿١٦﴾

Allazee kazzaba wa tawallaa

16Who had denied and turned away.

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى ﴿١٧﴾

Wa sa yujannnabuhal atqaa

17But the righteous one will avoid it -

ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ ﴿١٨﴾

Allazee yu'tee maalahoo yatazakkaa

18[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself

وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍۢ تُجْزَىٰٓ ﴿١٩﴾

Wa maa li ahadin 'indahoo min ni'matin tujzaaa

19And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded

إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ﴿٢٠﴾

Illab tighaaa'a wajhi rabbihil a 'laa

20But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High.

وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ ﴿٢١﴾

Wa lasawfa yardaa

21And he is going to be satisfied.

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ﴿١﴾

Wad duhaa

1By the morning brightness

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ﴿٢﴾

Wal laili iza sajaa

2And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴿٣﴾

Ma wad da'aka rabbuka wa ma qalaa

3Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].

وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿٤﴾

Walal-aakhiratu khairul laka minal-oola

4And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰٓ ﴿٥﴾

Wa la sawfa y'uteeka rabbuka fatarda

5And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًۭا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Alam ya jidka yateeman fa aawaa

6Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلًّۭا فَهَدَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Wa wa jadaka daal lan fahada

7And He found you lost and guided [you],

وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلًۭا فَأَغْنَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Wa wa jadaka 'aa-ilan fa aghnaa

8And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

فَأَمَّا ٱلْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ﴿٩﴾

Fa am mal yateema fala taqhar

9So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa am mas saa-ila fala tanhar

10And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ ﴿١١﴾

Wa amma bi ni'mati rabbika fahad dith

11But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ ﴿١﴾

Alam nashrah laka sadrak

1Did We not expand for you, [O Muhammad], your breast?

وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ ﴿٢﴾

Wa wa d'ana 'anka wizrak

2And We removed from you your burden

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ ﴿٣﴾

Allazee anqada zahrak

3Which had weighed upon your back

وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ ﴿٤﴾

Wa raf 'ana laka zikrak

4And raised high for you your repute.

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴿٥﴾

Fa inna ma'al usri yusra

5For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًۭا ﴿٦﴾

Inna ma'al 'usri yusra

6Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَٱنصَبْ ﴿٧﴾

Fa iza faragh ta fansab

7So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship].

وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرْغَب ﴿٨﴾

Wa ilaa rabbika far ghab

8And to your Lord direct [your] longing.

وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ ﴿١﴾

Wat teeni waz zaitoon

1By the fig and the olive

وَطُورِ سِينِينَ ﴿٢﴾

Wa toori sineen

2And [by] Mount Sinai

وَهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْأَمِينِ ﴿٣﴾

Wa haazal balad-il ameen

3And [by] this secure city [Makkah],

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِىٓ أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍۢ ﴿٤﴾

Laqad khalaqnal insaana fee ahsani taqweem

4We have certainly created man in the best of stature;

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَٰهُ أَسْفَلَ سَٰفِلِينَ ﴿٥﴾

Thumma ra dad naahu asfala saafileen

5Then We return him to the lowest of the low,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۢ ﴿٦﴾

Ill-lal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati; falahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon

6Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.

فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿٧﴾

Fama yu kaz zibuka b'adu bid deen

7So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?

أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَحْكَمِ ٱلْحَٰكِمِينَ ﴿٨﴾

Alai sal laahu bi-ahkamil haakimeen

8Is not Allah the most just of judges?

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ﴿١﴾

Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq

1Recite in the name of your Lord who created -

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ﴿٢﴾

Khalaqal insaana min 'alaq

2Created man from a clinging substance.

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ﴿٣﴾

Iqra wa rab bukal akram

3Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ﴿٤﴾

Al lazee 'allama bil qalam

4Who taught by the pen -

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ﴿٥﴾

'Al lamal insaana ma lam y'alam

5Taught man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ﴿٦﴾

Kallaa innal insaana layatghaa

6No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ ﴿٧﴾

Ar-ra aahus taghnaa

7Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ ﴿٨﴾

Innna ilaa rabbikar ruj'aa

8Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Ara-aital lazee yanhaa

9Have you seen the one who forbids

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١٠﴾

'Abdan iza sallaa

10A servant when he prays?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ﴿١١﴾

Ara-aita in kana 'alal hudaa

11Have you seen if he is upon guidance

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ ﴿١٢﴾

Au amara bit taqwaa

12Or enjoins righteousness?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١٣﴾

Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla

13Have you seen if he denies and turns away -

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

Alam y'alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa

14Does he not know that Allah sees?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ﴿١٥﴾

Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa'am bin nasiyah

15No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock -

نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ ﴿١٦﴾

Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiyah

16A lying, sinning forelock.

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ﴿١٧﴾

Fal yad'u naadiyah

17Then let him call his associates;

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ﴿١٨﴾

Sanad 'uz zabaaniyah

18We will call the angels of Hell.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩ ﴿١٩﴾

Kalla; la tuti'hu wasjud waqtarib

19No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ ٱلْقَدْرِ ﴿١﴾

Innaa anzalnaahu fee lailatil qadr

1Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ ﴿٢﴾

Wa maa adraaka ma lailatul qadr

2And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?

لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍۢ ﴿٣﴾

Lailatul qadri khairum min alfee shahr

3The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.

تَنَزَّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍۢ ﴿٤﴾

Tanaz zalul malaa-ikatu war roohu feeha bi izni-rab bihim min kulli amr

4The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.

سَلَٰمٌ هِىَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ ﴿٥﴾

Salaamun hiya hattaa mat la'il fajr

5Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.

لَمْ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ ﴿١﴾

Lam ya kunil lazeena kafaru min ahlil kitaabi wal mushri keena mun fak keena hattaa ta-tiya humul bayyinah

1Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence -

رَسُولٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتْلُوا۟ صُحُفًۭا مُّطَهَّرَةًۭ ﴿٢﴾

Rasoolum minal laahi yatlu suhufam mutahharah

2A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures

فِيهَا كُتُبٌۭ قَيِّمَةٌۭ ﴿٣﴾

Feeha kutubun qaiyimah

3Within which are correct writings.

وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ ﴿٤﴾

Wa maa tafarraqal lazeena ootul kitaaba il-la mim b'adi ma jaa-at humul baiyyinah

4Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence.

وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلْقَيِّمَةِ ﴿٥﴾

Wa maa umiroo il-la liy'abu dul laaha mukhliseena lahud-deena huna faa-a wa yuqeemus salaahta wa yu-tuz zakaata; wa zaalika deenul qaiyimah

5And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ ﴿٦﴾

Innal lazeena kafaru min ahlil kitaabi wal mushri keena fee nari jahan nama khaali deena feeha; ulaa-ika hum shar rul ba reeyah

6Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ ﴿٧﴾

Innal lazeena aamanu wa 'amilus saalihaati ula-ika hum khairul bareey yah

7Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.

جَزَآؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا ۖ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِىَ رَبَّهُۥ ﴿٨﴾

Jazaa-uhum inda rabbihim jan naatu 'adnin tajree min tahtihal an haaru khalideena feeha abada; radiy-yallaahu 'anhum wa ra du 'an zaalika liman khashiya rabbah.

8Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.

إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا ﴿١﴾

Izaa zul zilatil ardu zil zaalaha

1When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake

وَأَخْرَجَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا ﴿٢﴾

Wa akh rajatil ardu athqaalaha

2And the earth discharges its burdens

وَقَالَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا ﴿٣﴾

Wa qaalal insaanu ma laha

3And man says, "What is [wrong] with it?" -

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا ﴿٤﴾

Yawmaa izin tuhad dithu akhbaaraha

4That Day, it will report its news

بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحَىٰ لَهَا ﴿٥﴾

Bi-anna rabbaka awhaa laha

5Because your Lord has commanded it.

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَصْدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشْتَاتًۭا لِّيُرَوْا۟ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ ﴿٦﴾

Yawma iziy yas durun naasu ash tatal liyuraw a'maalahum

6That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًۭا يَرَهُۥ ﴿٧﴾

Famaiy ya'mal mithqala zarratin khai raiy-yarah

7So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍۢ شَرًّۭا يَرَهُۥ ﴿٨﴾

Wa maiy-y'amal mithqala zarratin sharraiy-yarah

8And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.

وَٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًۭا ﴿١﴾

Wal'aadi yaati dabha

1By the racers, panting,

فَٱلْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًۭا ﴿٢﴾

Fal moori yaati qadha

2And the producers of sparks [when] striking

فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًۭا ﴿٣﴾

Fal mugheeraati subha

3And the chargers at dawn,

فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًۭا ﴿٤﴾

Fa atharna bihee naq'a

4Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,

فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا ﴿٥﴾

Fawa satna bihee jam'a

5Arriving thereby in the center collectively,

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌۭ ﴿٦﴾

Innal-insana lirabbihee lakanood

6Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.

وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌۭ ﴿٧﴾

Wa innahu 'alaa zaalika la shaheed

7And indeed, he is to that a witness.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿٨﴾

Wa innahu lihubbil khairi la shadeed

8And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.

۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿٩﴾

Afala ya'lamu iza b'uthira ma filquboor

9But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered

وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa hussila maa fis sudoor

10And that within the breasts is obtained,

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ ﴿١١﴾

Inna rabbahum bihim yauma 'izil la khabeer

11Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted.

ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ﴿١﴾

Al qaari'ah

1The Striking Calamity -

مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ﴿٢﴾

Mal qaariah

2What is the Striking Calamity?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ ﴿٣﴾

Wa maa adraaka mal qaari'ah

3And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ ﴿٤﴾

Yauma ya koonun naasu kal farashil mabthooth

4It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ ﴿٥﴾

Wa ta koonul jibalu kal 'ihnil manfoosh

5And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ﴿٦﴾

Fa-amma man thaqulat mawa zeenuh

6Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍۢ رَّاضِيَةٍۢ ﴿٧﴾

Fahuwa fee 'ishatir raadiyah

7He will be in a pleasant life.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ ﴿٨﴾

Wa amma man khaffat mawa zeenuh

8But as for one whose scales are light,

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌۭ ﴿٩﴾

Fa-ummuhu haawiyah

9His refuge will be an abyss.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ ﴿١٠﴾

Wa maa adraaka maa hiyah

10And what can make you know what that is?

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ ﴿١١﴾

Naarun hamiyah

11It is a Fire, intensely hot.

أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ ﴿١﴾

Al haaku mut takathur

1Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ ﴿٢﴾

Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir

2Until you visit the graveyards.

كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣﴾

Kalla sawfa ta'lamoon

3No! You are going to know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤﴾

Thumma kalla sawfa ta'lamoon

4Then no! You are going to know.

كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿٥﴾

Kalla law ta'lamoona 'ilmal yaqeen

5No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...

لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ ﴿٦﴾

Latara-wun nal jaheem

6You will surely see the Hellfire.

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿٧﴾

Thumma latara wunnaha 'ainal yaqeen

7Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿٨﴾

Thumma latus alunna yauma-izin 'anin na'eem

8Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.

وَٱلْعَصْرِ ﴿١﴾

Wal' asr

1By time,

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ ﴿٢﴾

Innal insaana lafee khusr

2Indeed, mankind is in loss,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ ﴿٣﴾

Il lal lazeena aamanu wa 'amilus saali haati wa tawa saw bil haqqi wa tawa saw bis sabr

3Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

وَيْلٌۭ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍۢ لُّمَزَةٍ ﴿١﴾

Wai lul-li kulli hu mazatil-lumaza

1Woe to every scorner and mocker

ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًۭا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ ﴿٢﴾

Al-lazi jama'a maalaw wa'addadah

2Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.

يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ ﴿٣﴾

Yahsabu anna maalahu akhladah

3He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.

كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ ﴿٤﴾

Kalla layum ba zanna fil hutamah

4No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ ﴿٥﴾

Wa maa adraaka mal-hutamah

5And what can make you know what is the Crusher?

نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ ﴿٦﴾

Narul laahil-mooqada

6It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,

ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ ﴿٧﴾

Al latee tat tali'u 'alalafidah

7Which mounts directed at the hearts.

إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌۭ ﴿٨﴾

Innaha 'alaihim moosada

8Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them

فِى عَمَدٍۢ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ ﴿٩﴾

Fee 'amadim-mu mad dadah

9In extended columns.

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ ﴿١﴾

Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi ashaabil feel

1Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍۢ ﴿٢﴾

Alam yaj'al kai dahum fee tad leel

2Did He not make their plan into misguidance?

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ ﴿٣﴾

Wa arsala 'alaihim tairan abaabeel

3And He sent against them birds in flocks,

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍۢ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ ﴿٤﴾

Tar meehim bi hi jaaratim min sij jeel

4Striking them with stones of hard clay,

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍۢ مَّأْكُولٍۭ ﴿٥﴾

Faja 'alahum ka'asfim m'akool

5And He made them like eaten straw.

لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ ﴿١﴾

Li-ilaafi quraish

1For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -

إِۦلَٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ ﴿٢﴾

Elaafihim rihlatash shitaa-i wass saif

2Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -

فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ ﴿٣﴾

Fal y'abudu rabba haazal-bait

3Let them worship the Lord of this House,

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍۢ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ ﴿٤﴾

Allazi at'amahum min ju'inw-wa-aamana hum min khawf

4Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿١﴾

Ara-aital lazee yu kazzibu bid deen

1Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?

فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿٢﴾

Fa zaalikal lazi yadu'ul-yateem

2For that is the one who drives away the orphan

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿٣﴾

Wa la ya huddu 'alaa ta'amil miskeen

3And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٤﴾

Fa wai lul-lil mu salleen

4So woe to those who pray

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ﴿٥﴾

Al lazeena hum 'an salaatihim sahoon

5[But] who are heedless of their prayer -

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ ﴿٦﴾

Al lazeena hum yuraa-oon

6Those who make show [of their deeds]

وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ ﴿٧﴾

Wa yamna'oonal ma'oon

7And withhold [simple] assistance.

إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ ﴿١﴾

Innaa a'taina kal kauthar

1Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar.

فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ ﴿٢﴾

Fa salli li rabbika wanhar

2So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ ﴿٣﴾

Inna shani-aka huwal abtar

3Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.

قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ ﴿١﴾

Qul yaa-ai yuhal kaafiroon

1Say, "O disbelievers,

لَآ أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ ﴿٢﴾

Laa a'budu ma t'abudoon

2I do not worship what you worship.

وَلَآ أَنتُمْ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعْبُدُ ﴿٣﴾

Wa laa antum 'aabidoona maa a'bud

3Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.

وَلَآ أَنَا۠ عَابِدٌۭ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ ﴿٤﴾

Wa laa ana 'abidum maa 'abattum

4Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.

وَلَآ أَنتُمْ عَٰبِدُونَ مَآ أَعْبُدُ ﴿٥﴾

Wa laa antum 'aabidoona ma a'bud

5Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.

لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِىَ دِينِ ﴿٦﴾

Lakum deenukum wa liya deen.

6For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."

إِذَا جَآءَ نَصْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْفَتْحُ ﴿١﴾

Iza jaa-a nas rullahi walfath

1When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest,

وَرَأَيْتَ ٱلنَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًۭا ﴿٢﴾

Wa ra-aitan naasa yadkhuloona fee deenil laahi afwajah

2And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes,

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ تَوَّابًۢا ﴿٣﴾

Fa sab bih bihamdi rabbika was taghfir, innahu kaana tawwaaba

3Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.

تَبَّتْ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍۢ وَتَبَّ ﴿١﴾

Tab bat yadaa abee Lahabinw-wa tabb

1May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ ﴿٢﴾

Maa aghna 'anhu maaluhu wa ma kasab

2His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًۭا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍۢ ﴿٣﴾

Sa yas laa naran zaata lahab

3He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ ﴿٤﴾

Wam ra-atuh hamma latal-hatab

4And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.

فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌۭ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ ﴿٥﴾

Fee jeediha hab lum mim-masad

5Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.

قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿١﴾

Qul huwal laahu ahad

1Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ ﴿٢﴾

Allah hus-samad

2Allah, the Eternal Refuge.

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ﴿٣﴾

Lam yalid wa lam yoolad

3He neither begets nor is born,

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ ﴿٤﴾

Wa lam yakul-lahu kufuwan ahad

4Nor is there to Him any equivalent."

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ ﴿١﴾

Qul a'uzoo bi rabbil-falaq

1Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak

مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ﴿٢﴾

Min sharri ma khalaq

2From the evil of that which He created

وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ﴿٣﴾

Wa min sharri ghasiqin iza waqab

3And from the evil of darkness when it settles

وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّٰثَٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ ﴿٤﴾

Wa min sharrin-naffaa-thaati fil 'uqad

4And from the evil of the blowers in knots

وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ ﴿٥﴾

Wa min shar ri haasidin iza hasad

5And from the evil of an envier when he envies."

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿١﴾

Qul a'uzu birabbin naas

1Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,

مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٢﴾

Malikin naas

2The Sovereign of mankind.

إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٣﴾

Ilaahin naas

3The God of mankind,

مِن شَرِّ ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ ٱلْخَنَّاسِ ﴿٤﴾

Min sharril was waasil khannaas

4From the evil of the retreating whisperer -

ٱلَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٥﴾

Al lazee yuwas wisu fee sudoorin naas

5Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind -

مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ ﴿٦﴾

Minal jinnati wan naas

6From among the jinn and mankind."
