Wassaaaffaati saffaa
1By those [angels] lined up in rows
Fazzaajiraati zajraa
2And those who drive [the clouds]
Fattaaliyaati Zikra
3And those who recite the message,
Inna Illaahakum la Waahid
4Indeed, your God is One,
Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa Rabbul mashaariq
5Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.
Innaa zaiyannas samaaa 'ad dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib
6Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
Wa hifzam min kulli Shaitaanim maarid
7And as protection against every rebellious devil
Laa yassamma 'oona ilal mala il a'alaa wa yuqzafoona min kulli jaanib
8[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,
Duhooranw wa lahum 'azaabunw waasib
9Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
Illaa man khatifal khatfata fa atba'ahoo shihaabun saaqib
10Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnaa; innaa khalaqnaahum min teenil laazib
11Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay.
Bal'ajibta wa yaskharoon
12But you wonder, while they mock,
Wa izaa zukkiroo laa yazkuroon
13And when they are reminded, they remember not.
Wa izaa ra aw Aayatinw yastaskhiroon
14And when they see a sign, they ridicule
Wa qaalooo in haazaa illaa sihrum mubeen
15And say, "This is not but obvious magic.
'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamab'oosoon
16When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
Awa aabaa'unal awwaloon
17And our forefathers [as well]?"
Qul na'am wa antum daakhiroon
18Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."
Fa innamaa hiya zajra tunw waahidatun fa izaa hum yanzuroon
19It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
Qa qaaloo yaa wailanaa haazaa Yawmud-Deen
20They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
Haazaa Yawmul Faslil lazee kuntum bihee tukaziboon
21[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
22[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
Min doonil laahi fahdoohum ilaa siraatil Jaheem
23Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
Wa qifoohum innahum mas'ooloon
24And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."
Maa lakum laa tanaasaroon
25[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"
Bal humul Yawma mustaslimoon
26But they, that Day, are in surrender.
Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatasaaa'aloon
27And they will approach one another blaming each other.
Qaalooo innakum kuntum taatoonanaa 'anil yameen
28They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."
Qaaloo bal lam takoonoo mu'mineen
29The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
Wa maa kaana lanaa 'alaikum min sultaanim bal kuntum qawman taagheen
30And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
Fahaqqa 'alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa'iqoon
31So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
Fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween
32And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
Fa innahum Yawma'izin fil'azaabi mushtarikoon
33So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
Innaa kazaalika naf'alu bil mujrimeen
34Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
Innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon
35Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon
36And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
bal jaaa'a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen
37Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
Innakum lazaaa'iqul 'azaabil aleem
38Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
Wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta'maloon
39And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
40But not the chosen servants of Allah.
Ulaaa'ika lahum rizqum ma'loom
41Those will have a provision determined -
Fa waakihu wa hum mukramoon
42Fruits; and they will be honored
Fee jannaatin Na'eem
43In gardens of pleasure
'Alaa sururim mutaqaa bileen
44On thrones facing one another.
Yutaafu 'alaihim bikaasim mim ma'een
45There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,
Baidaaa'a laz zatil lish shaaribeen
46White and delicious to the drinkers;
Laa feehaa ghawlunw wa laa hum 'anhaa yunzafoon
47No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
Wa 'indahum qaasiraatut tarfi 'een
48And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,
Ka annahunna baidum maknoon
49As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa badiny yatasaaa 'aloon
50And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
Qaala qaaa'ilum minhum innee kaana lee qareen
51A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
Yaqoolu a'innnaka laminal musaddiqeen
52Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe
'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamadeenoon
53That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
Qaala hal antum muttali'oon
54He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"
Fattala'a fara aahu fee sawaaa'il Jaheem
55And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.
Qaala tallaahi in kitta laturdeen
56He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me.
57If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].
Afamaa nahnu bimaiyiteen
58Then, are we not to die
Illa mawtatanal oola wa maa nahnu bimu'azzabeen
59Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
Inna haazaa falya'ma lil'aamiloon
60Indeed, this is the great attainment.
Limisli haaza falya'ma lil 'aamiloon
61For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
Azaalika khairun nuzulan am shajaratuz Zaqqom
62Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen
63Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
Innahaa shajaratun takhruju feee aslil Jaheem
64Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
Tal'uhaa ka annahoo ru'oosush Shayaateen
65Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
Fa innahum la aakiloona minhaa famaali'oona minhal butoon
66And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
Summa inna lahum 'alaihaa lashawbam min hameem
67Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
Summa inna marji'ahum la ilal Jaheem
68Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
Innahum alfaw aabaaa'ahum daaalleen
69Indeed they found their fathers astray.
Fahum 'alaa aasaarihim yuhra'oon
70So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
Wa laqad dalla qablahum aksarul awwaleen
71And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
Wa laqad arsalnaa feehim munzireen
72And We had already sent among them warners.
Fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul munzareen
73Then look how was the end of those who were warned -
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
74But not the chosen servants of Allah.
Wa laqad naadaanaa Noohun falani'mal mujeeboon
75And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
Wa jajainaahu wa ahlahoo minal karbil 'azeem
76And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
Wa ja'alnaa zurriyyatahoo hummul baaqeen
77And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
78And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Salaamun 'alaa Noohin fil 'aalameen
79"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
80Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
81Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Summa aghraqnal aakhareen
82Then We drowned the disbelievers.
Wa ina min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem
83And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,
Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem
84When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon
85[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon
86Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire?
Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen
87Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
Fanazara nazratan finnujoom
88And he cast a look at the stars
Faqaala inee saqeem
89And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen
90So they turned away from him, departing.
Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon
91Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?
Maa lakum laa tantiqoon
92What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"
Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen
93And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon
94Then the people came toward him, hastening.
Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon
95He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon
96While Allah created you and that which you do?"
Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem
97They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."
Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen
98And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.
Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen
99And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen
100My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem
101So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa; qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen
102And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast."
Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen
103And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
Wa naadainaahu ai yaaaa Ibraheem
104We called to him, "O Abraham,
Qad saddaqtar ru'yaa; innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
105You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Inna haazaa lahuwal balaaa'ul mubeen
106Indeed, this was the clear trial.
Wa fadainaahu bizibhin 'azeem
107And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
108And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Salaamun 'alaaa Ibraaheem
109"Peace upon Abraham."
Kazaalika najzil muhsineen
110Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
111Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyayam minas saaliheen
112And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafshihee mubeen
113And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself.
Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
114And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.
Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem
115And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen
116And We supported them so it was they who overcame.
Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen
117And We gave them the explicit Scripture,
Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem
118And We guided them on the straight path.
Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen
119And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
120"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
121Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Innahumaa min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
122Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.
Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen
123And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,
Iz qaala liqawmiheee alaa tattaqoon
124When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah?
Atad'oona Ba'lanw wa tazaroona ahsanal khaaliqeen
125Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators -
Allaaha Rabbakum wa Rabba aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen
126Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"
Fakazzaboohu fa inna hum lamuhdaroon
127And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
128Except the chosen servants of Allah.
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
129And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Salaamun 'alaaa Ilyaaseen
130"Peace upon Elias."
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
131Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
132Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Wa inna Lootal laminal mursaleen
133And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.
Iz najjainaahu wa ahlahooo ajma'een
134[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,
Illaa 'ajoozan fil ghaabireen
135Except his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers].
Summa dammarnal aakhareen
136Then We destroyed the others.
Wa innakum latamurroona 'alaihim musbiheen
137And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
Wa billail; afalaa ta'qiloon
138And at night. Then will you not use reason?
Wa inna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen
139And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.
Iz abaqa ilal fulkil mash hoon
140[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.
Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhadeen
141And he drew lots and was among the losers.
Faltaqamahul hootu wa huwa muleem
142Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.
Falaw laaa annahoo kaana minal musabbiheen
143And had he not been of those who exalt Allah,
Lalabisa fee batniheee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon
144He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.
Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem
145But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.
Wa ambatnaa 'alaihi shajaratam mai yaqteen
146And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.
Wa arsalnaahu ilaa mi'ati alfin aw yazeedoon
147And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.
Fa aamanoo famatta' naahum ilaa heen
148And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.
Fastaftihim ali Rabbikal banaatu wa lahumul banoon
149So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
Am khalaqnal malaaa'i kata inaasanw wa hm shaahidoon
150Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"
Alaaa innahum min ifkihim la yaqooloon
151Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,
Waladal laahu wa innhum lakaaziboon
152" Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.
Astafal banaati 'alal baneen
153Has He chosen daughters over sons?
Maa lakum kaifa tahkumoon
154What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?
Afalaa tazakkaroon
155Then will you not be reminded?
Am lakum sultaanum mubeen
156Or do you have a clear authority?
Faatoo bi Kitaabikum in kuntum saadiqeen
157Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.
Wa ja'aloo bainahoo wa bainal jinnati nasabaa; wa laqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon
158And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment].
Subhaanal laahi 'ammaa yasifoon
159Exalted is Allah above what they describe,
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
160Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin].
Fa innakum wa maa ta'ubdoon
161So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
Maaa antum 'alaihi befaaatineen
162You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
Illaa man huwa saalil jaheem
163Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.
Wa maa minnasa illaa lahoo maqaamum ma'loom
164[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
Wa innaa llanah nus saaffoon
165And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].
Wa innaa lanah nul musabbihoon
166And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah."
Wa in kaanoo la yaqooloon
167And indeed, the disbelievers used to say,
Law anna 'indana zikram minal awwaleen
168"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
Lakunna 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
169We would have been the chosen servants of Allah."
Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa ya'lamoon
170But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.
Wa laqad sabaqat Kalimatunaa li'ibaadinal mursa leen
171And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
Innaa hum lahumul mansooroon
172[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
Wa inna jundana lahumul ghaaliboon
173And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome.
Fatawalla 'anhum hatta heen
174So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time.
Wa absirhum fasawfa yubsiroon
175And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
Afabi'azaabinaa yasta'jiloon
176Then for Our punishment are they impatient?
Fa izaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaaa'a sabaahul munzareen
177But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.
Wa tawalla 'anhum hattaa heen
178And leave them for a time.
Wa absir fasawfa yubsiroon
179And see, for they are going to see.
Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil 'izzati 'amma yasifoon
180Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
Wa salaamun 'alalmursaleen
181And peace upon the messengers.
Walhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen
182And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
